How EFT changed my life

A common question I get asked by clients is why did I become an EFT practitioner?
My own life experiences and challenges led me down this path, together with my experience as a primary school teacher, where I suffered burnout, as did many of my colleagues. The students in my class were becoming more and more anxious and I began looking outside of mainstream Western medicine to alternative approaches to help with my own mental health but also to help the mental health of those around me.

Below is a summary of my personal story and what led me to EFT tapping.

Depression, Anxiety and Chronic Pain

I experienced my first episode of depression when I was 19 years old, which is over 20 years ago now. Mental health was not understood as well as it is now, and I must admit at that time I felt there was something wrong with me.

Now I see that all those supressed emotions and traumas experienced in my childhood and teens led to what I describe as a volcanic eruption and that it was inevitable that they would need to be released in some way. I became unable to function, found it hard to get out of bed and had to make the decision to pull the pin on my Bachelor of Marine Science Degree.

I was lucky because I began taking antidepressants that took the edge off and I slowly began to climb out of the hole, seeing more and more light each day.

I began seeing a therapist and continued for quite a few years. Therapy was helpful but unfortunately after talking about the same things repeatedly, I found myself feeling flat after talk-based therapy and I stopped for many years until 2012.

In 2012 I developed a chronic pain condition called CRPS that led me back into a spiral and into a deep depression with severe anxiety. That was probably my worst episode of depression and anxiety. The cause of the depression and anxiety at the time was CRPS, a debilitating and painful chronic pain condition. I wasn’t interested in talk-based therapy at this point but did receive some group therapy as part of the pain clinic program I was admitted in. I then again tried talk-based therapy, but it didn’t last long as I felt I was not getting anything out of it.

I slowly put myself back together again and healed CRPS. The experience had taught me so much about pain, myself, power of thoughts and the power of the mind. I began working on myself more and delved deep into meditation practice to continue healing. I started learning about the true cause of the chronic pain condition I suffered and learnt about how supressed emotions and traumas cause physical and mental dis-ease.

It all made sense and led me down the path of trying different alternative therapies including kinesiology and reiki to help with my healing process. They helped too but I kept searching. At a meditation retreat I heard about EFT tapping and the incredible research backing its effectiveness. I looked it up and found myself booking into a session with an EFT tapping therapist. My first session was AMAZING as I had never felt such a huge shift like this in any type of therapy session before, only in meditation. I felt lighter, more at peace and just felt different. My nervous system was regulated, and I felt so calm and relaxed! I was sold! I soon booked into more sessions and then into an EFT Training course which led me down the path to becoming an EFT Tapping practitioner myself.
The beauty of EFT was that I didn’t leave sessions feeling flat or sad and I always felt better after them, even after working on the heavy issues. Sometimes I didn’t even have to talk about the issues and only focus on the sensation in my body allowing me to be present with them and move through the emotions. I also loved the shifts experienced in my thinking and how as I worked through issues, I would see the same issues but through a different lens.

EFT did change my life in a big way. It not only helped in my healing, but it gave me a new purpose in life, and I created a business, which I never in million years thought I would do. I also began to take EFT into the classroom and used it with my students, which inspired me to create EFT tapping programs for schools.

My personal therapy still includes daily meditation and regular self-tapping but also regular 1:1 sessions with another EFT practitioner to get really deep.

If you have been thinking of trying EFT, I hope my story will help you in deciding whether it is the right healing modality for you. Below are some other reasons.

Why choose EFT Therapy

Why Choose EFT Therapy?

I truly believe that all therapies are helpful and some of them might resonate with you, and some might not. Some might work for a period of time and then stop like in my case. Whatever therapy you chose you will always get something out of which has always been the case for me.

A lot of my clients come to me having the same experience I had with talk-based therapy. It helped to a degree but then it stopped.

If you have been thinking about trying EFT/Tapping therapy in a 1:1 coaching setting, but are still sitting on the fence, here are some reasons that might help you take the leap.

  1. EFT empowers you! During EFT sessions we don’t focus on “what’s wrong with me?” but instead we focus on shifting and releasing beliefs and programs that have kept you ‘stuck’ and stopped you from living the life you want and deserve.
  2. EFT is Effective! It can get to a root cause of a problem quickly. It works by peeling back the layers of the cause of your specific problem. This fast and effective process helps you release negative emotions to restore peace, freedom and balance in your life.
  3. EFT is a safe and gentle technique. When working with a trained practitioner, you are guided in a safe and gentle way to release negative emotions that are contributing to an issue.
  4. EFT is evidence – based and has many scientific studies to back up its effectiveness. Research has found that EFT reduces anxiety, boosts the immune system, reduces the stress hormone cortisol, reduces pain, improves mood and reduces cravings.
  5. Fast results. It does not take weeks or months to experience the effects of EFT. In fact, you can begin to feel the calming effects of EFT after just a few minutes. Many people report feeling a shift regarding their issue after just one session of EFT.
  6. You don’t need to believe in EFT for it to work EFT is effective on anyone regardless of if you believe that it will for you or not.
  7. You have tried other forms of therapy and they haven’t worked. Many clients find EFT after years of trying other types of therapy that haven’t got them the results they hoped for.
  8. EFT is safe! It can be used on anyone at any age including babies, children, teens, adults and pensioners! You can even use EFT on your pets.
  9. EFT can be used as a RELAXATION TOOL. EFT calms the nervous system within minutes and can be used as a relaxation tool to release stress and tension. It helps bring the nervous system back in to a regulated and healthy state.

EFT can treat:

  • Anxiety & panic attacks
  • Depression
  • Acute & chronic pain
  • Grief
  • Trauma
  • Stress & overwhelm
  • Phobias
  • Addictions
  • PTSD
  • Weight issues (including eating disorders) & body confidence
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD)
  • Confidence
  • Feeling stuck
  • Limiting beliefs
  • And so much more……
  • If you are feeling stuck, searching for purpose, or seeking to improve emotional and/or physical wellbeing, then EFT can help you.

I am always amazed in this work and the transformations and how quickly people can shift their old patterns that have kept them stuck. I love working with kids, as they shift very quickly, which is cool to watch.

What I have also learnt is that we should never give up hope in overcoming ourselves and healing. Just because one door closes, does not mean that your issue is beyond help, it just means that you are yet to find another door, which could just be the perfect healing modality for you.
